On a rainy Friday morning, members of the Pitt Meadows Community Garden joined with City Councillor Doug Bing and representatives from the parks and recreation department received a grant cheque from Mike Welte, the area representative for Farm Credit Canada. Guillermo Quijano, Bruce McLeod (City of Maple Ridge), Teresa Musgrave, Linda Musgrave, Mike Welte, (costumer service representative for Farm Credit Canada), Geoff Mallory, (District Maple Ridge), City Councillor Doug Bing, Sharon Rittich, and Dave Bissett all gathered for the presentation. Pitt Meadows Community Garden members were elated to receive a $7,500 cheque recently from Farm Credit Canada. The money is earmarked for construction of a greenhouse at their Bonson Road site in Pitt Meadows.
Gary McNeal (second from left) and Becky Robinson (third from right) received a heritage award for restoring their Hammond home, the former residence of Dr. Laurence Broe, the first doctor in Hammond. They were congratulated by Community Heritage Commission chair Craig Speirs, Maple Ridge Mayor Ernie Daykin, and councillors Bob Masse and Michael Morden.
Aboriginal education worker James McCloskey and acting principal of aboriginal education Ron Lanzarotta were at a pole raising ceremony at Garibalidi Secondary on Feb. 26.

Cythera Transition Housing Society was honoured for operating the best thrift store in town at the Readers Choice awards ceremonies.
Linda and Bruce Fuller were on hand at the Readers Choice awards ceremonies to receive the award for the best appliance store and best furniture store in town.
Joginder and Swarnjit Shah from GM Restaurant were once again given the award for the best Indian restaurant in town at the Readers Choice awards ceremonies.
