On Friday evening, 43 homes on the unprotected section of Wharf Street in the Hammond neighbourhood of Maple Ridge were given an evacuation alert as a precautionary measure, in accordance with the District of Maple Ridge’s flood management plan.

District staff will continue to monitor the water levels and respond to enquiries from the residents in this area. They are asking people who do not live in this area avoid the area for the privacy of the residents.

To assist area residents in interpreting the forecast river levels, the projected peak on Monday at 6 a.m. is forecast to be 20 to 30 centimeters higher than the levels observed along Wharf Street at noon on Saturday.

There has been no significant change in this area in the Kanaka area since Friday. Rainfall overnight slightly raised the level of the wetland areas in the Kanaka estuary.

To assist area residents in interpreting the forecast river levels, the projected peak on Monday at 6 a.m. is forecast to be 20 to 30 centimeters higher than the levels observed along Kanaka Way at noon on Saturday.

The City of Pitt Meadows initiated a Level 1 virtual emergency operations centre and will continue daily updates on their website of the river condition.

Both municipalities are doing daily dike patrols to ensure the security of the diking system.

The Katzie First Nation built a berm about two miles long to protect their residential area, which is outside the diking area.
