More than 30 organizations took part in the second annual Interactive Sports Expo at the Pitt Meadows Arena and Athletic Park today.

From archery to roller derby, and ringette to martial arts, there were activities and demonstration on-going the entire four hours the event was on.

Maple Ridge Archery Club had a busy interactive area set up at a baseball diamond and let adults and children give archery a try.

“It was hard, but fun. It takes a lot of upper body strength and coordination to pull the arrow back,” said Maple Ridge Councillor Corisa Bell.

Another popular area was the dry rink where demonstrations in roller derby, Zumba fitness, martial arts, and rhythmic gymnastics were given.

“It has been a fantastic day,” said Perry Bateson, event organizer and owner of Yeun’s Family Martial Arts.

“I’ve been getting great feedback from all the people. People really see the long-term goal for our community,” said Bateson, who added that attendance was a little smaller than he had hoped but said “we have to start somewhere.”
