A couple was arrested after almost 10,000 marijuana plants and firearms were found in an east Maple Ridge home.

Ridge Meadows RCMP went to the home on Ferguson Avenue around 4 p.m. on Monday and, on finding the illegal grow-op, the couple were arrested.

A total of 9,666 marijuana plants in varying stages of growth were seized by police, as well as several firearms.

There were two children living in the home where the grow-op was found.

"This was quite a large, sophisticated marijuana growing operation," said Ridge Meadows RCMP Sgt. Dale Somerville.

"Police have advised the Ministry for Children and Families, as the couple have two young children who live in the home with them, and a marijuana grow-op is a very unhealthy environment."

Both suspects, a 42-year-old male and his 35-yearold wife, have been released and are slated to appear in court in February.
