At about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 James Zacharias was awakened by a car alarm going off outside in the 11200 block of Cottonwood Drive in Maple Ridge.

Several minutes later there were "loud popping sounds" coming from the street.

"Looking out we saw an SUV in flame," said Zacharias, who added that the driver's door was ajar.
