A fire and series of explosions in Port Kells injured one man and shut down travel from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to Langley on Tuesday afternoon.

The bridge is open to northbound traffic from 200th Street only.

A fire in the 9800 block of 198A Street at a trucking plant broke out sometime in the mid-afternoon.

There were multiple explosions at the site, and there was a concern that the fire was chemical in nature, said Cpl. Holly Marks of the Langley RCMP.

Asst. Chief Rob Chatton of Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue said they have not been called to assist, but “quite a few departments are fighting it.”

“I’m sure it’s just been closed for smoke and fire fighter operations,” he said about the Golden Ears Bridge.

Police and fire crews began evacuating an area around the site of the blaze.

One man was injured but is expected to survive.

The bridge, rail lines in the area, and multiple roads were shut down.
