Golden Ears Movie Series, presented at The ACT, will showcase The Kid With a Bike, a French movie about a hairdresser who fosters an 11-year-old boy.
The film follows the developing relationship between Cyril (Thomas Doret), a wilful, intense 11-year-old boy abandoned by his single father (Dardennes regular Jeremie Renier), and Samantha (Cecile de France), a young hairdresser.
But Cyril is taken under the wing of a local gang leader known as "the Dealer." At the Dealer's prompting, Cyril robs a newsstand owner and his son with a baseball bat.
The Dealer, fearing Cyril had been identified, threatens him to keep quiet and forces him to keep the money. Cyril tries giving it to his father only to be chased away. Dejected, Cyril returns to Samantha and finally accepts her care for him.
The Kid with a Bike, made by filmmakers Jean-Pierrre and Luc Dardenne, will be shown on Monday evening at The ACT.
The film is at 7: 30 p.m. Tickets are available at The ACT ticket office, by calling 604-476-2787, or at www.theactmapleridge. org.
