An alert neighbour is being credited with stopping a residential break-and-enter in progress.
The quick-thinking neighbour stopped a would-be thief in his tracks last Thursday afternoon in the 18800 blcok of 124th Avenue last Thursday, said Sgt. Dale Somerville.
Consequently, police arrived and arrested a suspect inside the house.
Jason William Sawatsky, 41, has been charged with breaking and entering a dwelling, as well as possession of break-and-enter tools, Somerville elaborated.
He appeared in Port Coquitlam provincial court last Friday, and was remanded in custody. He will make his next court appearance, via video, on Monday morning.
“Mr. Sawatsky is known to Ridge Meadows RCMP,” Somerville said. “This case clearly illustrates how citizens and police can work together to reduce, or solve crime in our community. Police use many different investigation methods, but having eye witnesses cooperating with our investigations, and finding a suspect committing an offence in the act is the best.
“Police want these types of calls. You know who belongs in your neighbourhood, so if you see a suspicious person, call us to check.”
