Volunteers and firefighters collected donations on Saturday
Firefighters and volunteers collected donations at the Real Canadian Superstore in Pitt Meadows on Saturday as part of Firefighters for Families. It’s an annual one-day fundraising drive that collects for two local charities.

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows firefighters, as well as volunteers, were shaking their boots in support of the Friends In Need Food Bank and the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper Society on Saturday.
Volunteers from the Lions Club and Friends In Need Food Bank, as well as lone community volunteer Chase McLaren were at the Superstore.
"It was great to have [Chase] there with us. He was right in there, like part of the fire department, working side by side with our members," said Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue assistant fire chief Rob Chatton.
Meanwhile, in Maple Ridge about 30 firefighters were collecting donations at six locations.
"It was good - surprisingly good," said Maple Ridge assistant fire chief Timo Juurakko.
"I was a bit worried at first, but Maple Ridge came through again."
Firefighters and volunteers were at both Maple Ridge Save-on-Foods, Coopers Foods, London Drugs Valley Fair Mall, Thrifty Foods, Extra Foods, Safeway. Pitt Meadows IGA, Starbucks, Superstore, and the Meadowtown Liquor Store.
Cheque will be given to the Friends In Need Food Bank and Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper when the CP Holiday Train makes its annual stop at the West Coast Express Port Haney station tonight.
