A group of singing Mounties are spreading some holiday cheer as Christmas approaches.

The choir - made up of Ridge Meadows RCMP members, retired RCMP members, municipal employees, and some friends - are touring seniors' homes, singing some holiday classics to the residents.

Supt. Dave Walsh, who is the top cop with Ridge Meadows RCMP, started this choir approximately 15 years ago.

Participating members give up their own time to sing to the seniors, most of whom can't get out into the community.

The group visited the Langley Seniors Village assisted living residence on Tuesday. It was the second of what will be six stops at seniors care facilities in the region.

"The reason this event has continued is our audience appears to appreciate it," said Dan Herbranson, communications strategist with Ridge Meadows RCMP. "It fully illustrates how Ridge Meadows RCMP is engaged in our communities, and another way police officers give back to their citizens.

The members who are able to make it out to participate truly enjoy the experience, and can see the smiles on the senior citizens' faces."

As far as talent goes, the choir members have everything from "good to lip sync," according to Herbranson.

As Walsh says before every performance, "You can have good, or you can have entertaining, but unfortunately you can't have both."

"That sort of sums up the talent portion," Herbranson noted.
