A $1,500 cheque was presented to the Three Rivers Area Scouts from the Maple Ridge Community Foundation on behalf of the George Mussallem Youth Fund.

This is the first grant given from this new fund set up in late 2011, which is meant to support local youth organizations in the community.

The Three Rivers Area Scouts encompasses Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Mission.

Three Rivers Area Commission Lee Hamilton said the funds will be used to help offset the costs of youth activities, camps in the area.

Scouting has a policy that no youth will be denied attending programs because of affordability.
