ena Harty recently turned her addiction for scrapbooking into a business.
Z The long-time Whonnockian opened A Paper Notion a few weeks ago and will celebrate a grand opening this Saturday and Sunday.
She told me that scrapbooking and card making started out as a pastime and then became an addiction. She started teaching a few classes and opened a little shop in her home out in Whonnock.
"I decided it was time to jump it up a notch and bring it into town, nervously, and now we are here," Harty said about her shop in the 22200 block of Dewdney Trunk Road, directly across the street from Liquidation World.
"It doesn't feel like work," she said, adding that it's like having her own big craft room all the time, except that her daughter Erin Christensen, who works for Harty part-time, makes Mom pay for her supplies.
Harty hopes A Paper Notion will experience a long run as there is no other scrapbooking-or paper-crafting-specific shop in Maple Ridge.
Every Friday night A Paper Notion has something called "crops," which is another way to say a bunch of crafters getting together to create scrapbooks and cards.
