Five thousand pounds of food were wheeled to the Friends In Need Food Bank on Friday from Save-On-Foods by the crew from Whonnock Roofing.

The total food bill for the local roofing company's annual Christmas shop was $5,208.

This is the seventh year brothers Clay and Bram Gagnon, co-owners of Whonnock Roofing, donned their Santa hats and shopped for food at Save-On-Foods on 227th for the Friends In Need Food Bank. They were joined by the brothers' children, Belle, Ben, John, Joey, and Jordan, Silas, and baby Jonah.

Seven years ago, the Gagnon brothers decided they wanted to do something to give back to the community, and the Friends In Need Food Bank seemed like a natural fit.

"We know personally friends and family who've needed the services in the past," Clay said.

For Bram, the fact there are children accessing the food bank services is "crazy."

The roofing company collects the money throughout the year and the morning of the big shop, the crew give up their morning to help collect the food.

"They look forward to it every year," Clay said.

Whonnock Roofing has been in business since 1978.
