Thomas Haney student Miranda Tymoschuk is planning a fundraiser this weekend selling baked goods at Haney Place Mall with proceeds going towards her trip to Africa this spring.

Tymoschuk, who just received a Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal from MP Randy Kamp, has faced medical adversity for much of her young life.

But she has also put efforts into fundraising for different organizations, and made a volunteer trip to Kenya last spring.

This coming March, she is going to volunteer in Ghana.

"I hadn't planned on going back so soon, but after hearing about this trip, it brought back so many wonderful memories and emotions as well as gave me a feeling of hope," Tymoschuk said. "I have to go back.

She needs to raise $4,700 in total for the trip, so she's been busy baking in her spare time. The bake sale will be at the top of the ramp at Haney Place Mall this Saturday from 9: 30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
