Pitt Meadows Secondary's Marauders football team devastated G.W. Graham Secondary Grizzlies at the exhibition fields in Chilliwack Friday night. The junior varsity team from Pitt won 36-0. Their next game is against Langley Saints on Friday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. on the Langley field.
Back in town, Friday night saw a battle between the Samuel Robertson Technical Titans, who went up against Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers.
It was a perfect October evening for Friday Night Lights in east Maple Ridge, described the team spokesperson.
"By the end of the evening it would be perfect for only one of the participants, unfortunately for the home town SRT Titan’s it wasn’t them," said the Titans rep.
The boys from Albion matched the visiting Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers drive for drive throughout the contest.
For the longest time the game remained locked with a converted touchdown each.
The Titan’s touchdown on a Tyrel Ogloff ramble came a few plays after a failed Panther’s post touchdown short kick off was corralled by Spence Clinton who scampered for 24 yards positioning the eager SRT offence within striking distance of the end zone.
Midway through the third quarter Abby doubled the score 14-7.
The home fans were disappointed when a flag was thrown negating a Titan touchdown in the forth. Towards the end of the game the stubborn SRT defense held Collegiate with 4 goal line stances. With only 29 seconds left on the clock the Titan’s two attempts at heroics couldn’t materialize.
In the end Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers recorded their lone victory of the season leaving SRT looking to this Friday for their first ‘W” against the other new entry into BC High School Football, the 1-5 G.W. Graham from Chilliwack - who fell last Friday to Pitt Meadows.
"SRT Titan standouts in this emotional contest were 6 ft 6 in Liam Evanow pulling in five catches for 71 yards, quarterback Tyrel Ogloff for his 72 rushing yards and 35 yard kickoff return," said the spokesperson.
The "stellar defense" was led by Ryley Loeppky’s eight tackles, Scott Murdoch’s six, and Brandon Ramsey’s five tackles and one fumble recovery.
This Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. concludes SRT Titan’s inaugural season with the final home game.
The team will be paying tribute to Remembrance Day as the combined band of Maple Ridge’s Sea and Army Cadets will be playing the national anthem and a number of scores during half-time.
