While you can't say they are officially hot just yet, the Ridge Meadows Flames are showing flashes of promise.
A 4-1 win over the Port Moody Panthers Friday at Planet Ice was the junior B hockey team's second straight win, and improves the Flames' record to 3-4-1-2. After a scoreless opening period, the Flames jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the second frame courtesy of back-to-back markers off the stick of Travis Oddy, who opened the scoring 1:56 into the second frame and then added to the tally at the 7:21 mark.
The Panthers made a game of it when Port Moody's Daniel Delbianco scored on a powerplay 8:34 into the third period.
But with 4:57 remaining in the game, Danny Wilson gave the Flames some breathing room when he found the net during a Ridge Meadows man advantage to make it 3-1. With 2:06 to go in regulation time, the Flames' MacLean
Hewitt rounded out the night's scoring.
The Flames will look to make it three straight wins when they visit the Mission Leisure Centre tonight (Thursday, Oct. 17) to take on the Mission City Outlaws.
The Outlaws, 2-8-0-1, sit last in the PJHL's five-team Harold Brittain Conference, while the Flames are alone in third, behind the second-place Aldergrove Kodiaks (6-4) and frontrunning Abbotsford Pilots (7-3-1).
The Outlaws will be looking to snap a fourgame losing skid.
Then, tomorrow night (Friday, Oct. 18), the Flames host the divisionleading Pilots at Planet Ice. Opening puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
