At least one more cat has turned up mutilated in Maple Ridge this week.

School children were shocked to find the remains of a cat during their lunch break at Harry Hooge Elementary yesterday.

The feline remains – a head, leg, and some fur – were found along the east fence line of the school grounds at 12280 230th St., principal Kevin Bodman confirmed.

“Rumours are true that remains were found, but it is up to the SPCA to deetermine if those remains were left by coyotes or not,” said Bodman.

Bodman said that the morbid discovery has peaked the children’s interest and “curiosity was huge.”

Tomorrow the school will have an assembly to discuss the situation and has plans to send home information in a newsletter.

So far 22 cats have been confirmed killed by non-natural causes. This new case could bring the total up to 23.
