Pitt Meadows teen Danielle Serverinski thinks her career is about to get a boost from Youthink.
The teen magazine is one step closer to determining the winner of B.C.'s Best Teen Band Contest, and Danielle is in the Top 10.
The 16-year old was raised on a third-generation dairy farm in Pitt Meadows. She remembers singing and dancing to country music and riding on her dad's tractor.
"Any summer day you can find me cutting hay while singing and tanning on a John Deere tractor," she explained.
In Grade 3 she started musical theatre classes and the rest is history, as the saying goes. Now she has a country music demo titled Changed Your Mind, an original song that she wrote.
Danielle began recording two more original songs and her dream is to "get a record deal and share my music with the world."
And she is well on her way to that goal with Youthink magazine's nomination.
Music industry judges Georges Couling, owner of Knuckleduster Music and a music instructor at Vancouver Community College, Scott Johnson of Warner Music Canada, and Shaun Verreault, lead singer of Wide Mouth Mason, were tasked with narrowing down more than 40 entries to the 10 finalists.
Now, the fate of the Top 10 falls to music fans.
The three bands with the most votes will compete live at the Electric Owl in Vancouver on April 27. Only one will be crowned Youthink's BC's Best Teen Band 2013, winning the grand prize of a recording session with Jay Evjen of Juicemix Productions at Greenhouse Studios, $2,000 cash for artist development, and the May/June cover of Youthink magazine.
Youthink is a magazine written by teens, for teens. The 40,000-circulation publication is distributed in more than 200 high schools in B.C. For more info, visit youthink.ca.
The other finalists are: ADOB from Port Moody, Collect Call from Surrey, How We Survive from Saanichton, Lucy Mistreated from Duncan, Northern Rain from Surrey, Roy Has Fire from Castlegar, The Distributors from Nanaimo, The Flying Fishmongers from North Vancouver, and The Racket from South Hazelton.
