Lantern event celebrates arts, culture, diversity

The fifth annual Festival of Light takes place this Friday afternoon

At 7 p.m. Friday, a procession of people with lanterns will wind around Memorial Peace Park in downtown Maple Ridge as a celebration of arts, culture, and diversity.

The fifth annual Festival of Light will brighten up the winter evening at the park.

But before the procession takes place, the community is invited to go to the centre court at Haney Place Mall to make lanterns for the parade.

People of all ages are invited to make them at workshops between 4 and 7 p.m. There will be live entertainment as well from 4 to 8 p.m. - including multicultural dance performances at the free, family-oriented event. There will also be a poetry contest.

The festival is organized by the Festival of Light Society. For more information about the event, email rg674806@telus.net.
