A 72-year-old man from Pitt Meadows is dead after he failed to stop his motorcycle in time and collided with an SUV.
The man was riding his motorcycle eastbound at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on Trans-Canada Highway in Chilliwack when he came upon stand-still traffic.
The motorcyclist hit the brakes, but police say he was unable to control the bike and stop in time.
He fell from the 2006 Suzuki bike and slid into the next lane hitting a Ford SUV, which was stopped in traffic. The two people in the SUV were uninjured.
A preliminary investigation showed that weather and road conditions don't appear to have been contributing factors in the crash.
But traffic conditions, speed, mechanical defects on the motorcycle, and driver inattention have not been ruled out.
