Terry Fox’s brother visited several elementary schools last week, bringing the message of the late crusader against cancer.
For instance, Fred Fox – Terry’s older brother – visited Gordon Greenwood Elementary in Langley, before the school’s annual Terry Fox Run on Friday.
“The first message for the kids is Terry was just like them,” said Fox, a Maple Ridge resident.
He talked to the students about how Terry grew up with his brothers and sister in Manitoba, Surrey, and Port Coquitlam.
Terry was never the smartest kid nor the most athletic, but he was determined to do well at whatever he did, and refused to give up.
Fox talked about his brother’s struggle with cancer, which would lead to him attempting to run across Canada, after having one leg amputated.
The annual runs in Terry’s memory raise money for cancer research.
Community Terry Fox runs were held earlier this month around Langley and across the Lower Mainland, B.C., and the rest of Canada. There are now Terry Fox runs on virtually every continent.
