Christmas came early for eight-year-old Harley McFarlane.
The Grade 3 student in Mr. Westwoods class at Albion Elementary was the big winner in a draw by the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
I started crying with happiness, Harley said about learning she had been picked to win the laptop.
At an assembly at her school on Monday morning Harley was presented the HP laptop computer from Tara Fraser, fire service advisor from the Ministry of Public Safety and assistant fire chiefs Timo Juurakko and Mark Smitton.
Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge fire halls recently had four new faces in charge.
Pitt Meadows Fire Rescue Service recently spent the day with their two Fire Chiefs for the Day winners Sebastian Jaschke from Davie Jones and Hannah Balangue from Pitt Meadows Elementary.
They were picked up from school in the ladder truck, toured the Citys public works yard and City hall, then went for lunch at Boston Pizza. After lunch they returned to the fire hall for a tour of the apparatus, then sprayed some water and washed some trucks.
Maple Ridge fire departments Fire Chiefs for the Day were Abby Douglas from Albion Elementary and Brett Blower from James Cameron School.
On Dec. 5 they had their picture taken right before they went to a meeting with Maple Ridge Mayor Ernie Daykin.
The four childrens names were drawn from entries submitted during fire prevention week.
