For Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows residents who are planning a staycation this B.C. Day long weekend, the Haney Farmers Market is a welcome destination for anyone looking for fresh local fruit and vegetables.

The market runs at Memorial Peace Park in downtown Maple Ridge from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. In addition to produce for sale, vendors are also hawking ready-made food and crafts.

The market also features a new bike lockup in the shape of a rooster.

This Saturday is member appreciation day at the market, and participating vendors will have specials. Anyone who is not a member, can visit the information booth and receive $10 worth of coupons.

Next week, on Aug. 11, the market will be at The Farm at 20981 123rd Ave. for an old-fashioned country market. There will be wagon rides down to the barn to see farming in action, a hay maze, live animals and their young owners of the Golden Ears Community 4-H Club. Vendors will be there from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to a recent study, the Haney Farmers Market is a significant economic player in the local economy, injecting nearly $1.6 million annually into the local economy.

Additional revenue of $1.1 million went into the community as spillover as customers were spending money at local businesses on the day of the market.
