Starting on Oct. 17, a grocery delivery service for those in need will be available from Thrifty Foods in Maple Ridge.

Thrifty Foods Sendial Program is a grocery delivery service geared towards people who are seniors, have been injured, or have some other physical impediment to prevent them from independently shopping.

Three people have applied for the service so far.

Wendy Blaney, a frontend manager at Thrifty Foods said that eight or nine people attended an orientation meeting for volunteers last week.

Sendial volunteers call customers, take orders, and shop for groceries during the week. Thrifty Foods home delivery drivers then assist by delivering the orders in food-safe, refrigerated vans to the doors and, in some cases, into the homes of those in need.

"This program is exceptional. It's a great service," said Blaney.

The program was started in 1987 by Thrifty Foods customer Prue Cunningham and Thrifty Foods co-founder Alex A. Campbell.

Maple Ridge residents who are interested in this service may visit Haney Place customer service desk (11895 226th St.), call Thrifty Foods Customer Service at 1-800667-8280, or visit www. thriftyfoods.com/sendial.

Exhibitors at the fair in Maple Ridge will include Advanced Nutrients, BC Construction Association, BC Corrections, Canadian Forces, Get Youth Working, HUB International, Tim Hortons, and more.
