Kate Zanon is taking over a position at the City of Pitt Meadows that has been held by Laurie Darcus for the past seven years.

And Zanon knows there are big expectations in following Darcus' footsteps.

"Laurie worked a long time for the City in various capacities. She has left big shoes to fill. I hope that I can bring similar ingenuity to the position," Zanon told The TIMES.

Zanon will have the expanded role of director of corporate and business services.

"I am excited about my expanded portfolio, and I look forward to being able to assist with serving not only the business community, but also the community at large," she said.

Zanon was key in the establishment of the Pitt Meadows Economic Development Corporation in 2009, and prior to that held various management positions including deputy manager of Fountain Hills, a community similar in size to Pitt Meadows, just outside of Scottsdale, Ariz.

Zanon has been a familiar face in the community for the past three years as the chief executive officer of the Pitt Meadows Economic Development Corporation. She will continue her role as CEO for the corporation, overseeing its economic development programs.

"This move allows the City to strengthen its connections to the business sector while capitalizing on Kate's previous experience in municipal government and to oversee the legislative, information technology, and sustainability functions for the community," said chief administrative officer Jake Rudolph.

"Kate brings an enthusiasm and a breadth of experience that will allow us to focus even more on our internal operations and our external partnerships with business. I wish her all the best in her new role and know that she will bring added value to the City," said Mayor Deb Walters.

Rudolph said the City of Pitt Meadows is "fortunate" to have such "talented and passionate staff."

"I am pleased to add to our dedicated complement by strengthening the City's ability to integrate the delivery of services and address one of the strategic priorities of council to make Pitt Meadows a livable community that provides opportunities for individuals and corporate citizens to thrive in a sustainable manner," Rudolph added.

Zanon begins in her expanded role on Sept. 17. She can be contacted at kzanon@pittmeadows.bc.ca.
