Honour turns to piggy bank

Dear Editor,

You've listed the Pitt Meadows mayor's salary as jumping by $16,000 over a three-year period [Pitt Man lobbies for zero, Jan. 17, TIMES]. This equates to an approximate raise of 10 per cent per year for each of the three years.

How many Pitt Meadows residents have received that big a raise, if any increase at all, over the same period?

I can see why Queen Walters isn't concerned about residents paying more in property taxes when she, with council's support, can just vote for another pay raise.

It used to be an honour to serve your community, now it's just how big a paycheque they will get.

Apparently, the mayor and council regard the citizens of Pitt Meadows as their piggy bank, and they won't be happy until they empty it completely.

Archie Blankers, Pitt Meadows
