Children 12 years or younger are given a chance to guess the weight of Bruce’s Market’s huge Atlantic pumpkin, as part of the store’s annual Giant Pumpkin Contest.
“These pumpkins are amazingly huge.
They are great for Halloween, as well as a fall display in your garden or yard,” said Ryan McEachern, one of the members of the family-run Albion business.
The closest guess will a prize.
That contest closed this past weekend. In addition to the pumpkins, Bruce’s has become synonymous for other fall produce – namely apples.
The market at 240th Street and Lougheed Highway recently held its annual Apple Fest on the first weekend after Thanksgiving.
During the week prior to the festival, the family scours the province for new and appealing varieties of apples, as well as heirloom and organic apples. Then, dozens of different varieties are gathered together in the apple tent.
This year’s Apple Fest ran Oct. 19 and 20, allowing guests to sample and buy apples, enjoy live entertainment, and have family photos taken.
