A vehicle fire in Golden Ears Provincial Park was extinguished just before it spread to the surrounding forests.

The Maple Ridge Fire Department was called to the park to put out a pickup truck containing ashes that had caught fire.

The truck fire was just about to spread to the surrounding forest in the provincial park when emergency crews showed up.

“They got there just in time,” said Stu Burgess, operational manager with SSG Holdings at Golden Ears Provincial Park.

Although the truck carried a fire extinguisher, the blaze was too big for the driver to put out.

The truck, which is work truck owned by SSG Holdings, was a write-off, Burgess said.

The main road in the park was closed off for about 40 minutes after the fire started around 1 p.m.

Burgess said the company will be reviewing their procedures after this fire, but also pointed out that “it’s really important people extinguish their fire before they leave.”
