Heritage restored

Dear Editor,

Mr. Bazett stated that he has lived in Maple Ridge for the past 10 years ['i' found disgusting, Mar. 14 Letters, TIMES], and he is disgusted.

Why? I saw the same photo in your paper, and said, "Hey! That's the Bank of Montreal.

I remember opening up my first account there! I got my first loan there!"

And as kids growing up in Hammond, my buddies and I loved going up the stairs and peeking into the bank on a Saturday, when they were closed. That was in the late 60s.

As for his statements that it is not a local landmark, he needs to do some research.

There is a lot of history behind this landmark, and I take offence to his comments, as this building along with others in the area of Hammond paved the way for many to live in our community. Hammond is rich in history.

As for comments about the Hells Angels (stupid), as far as I know, this is a legitimate business and the owners have lovingly restored the old Bank of Montreal.

Mr. Bazett should get off the Internet and go see some heritage in Port Hammond.

Will Waterbeek, Maple Ridge
