Dear Editor,
Judging from their media announcements over the past week, the provincial Liberal government agrees that Health Care in B.C. is in desperate need of a makeover – particularly in services to those suffering from mental illness, addiction, and dementia who require long-term treatment.
We need to immediately re-open Valleyview, the geriatric psychiatry building on the Riverview Lands, which until recently provided quality care to patients in a beautiful setting.
Some people need residential care for their safety and well-being. It is obvious that deinstitutionalization is not working.
