Fraser Regional Correctional Centre confirmed that a small fire occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15.

“[The fire] was contained in a storage room at Fraser Regional Correctional Centre. Four staff were treated on site for smoke inhalation, however, no one was seriously hurt or injured as a result of this incident,” said a ministry spokesperson.

The sprinkler system was activated and the fire department was called to the scene to ensure the fire was out.

Assistant fire chief Timo Juurakko said the fire crew went to the scene to confirm the fire was fully doused.

According to prison officials the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

“We can also confirm that the unit where the incident occurred is fully functional as of Monday morning.”
