Chewing gum – an activity that used to be frowned upon at school – was positively encouraged recently at a fundraiser at St. Patrick’s Elementary.

Students at the Maple Ridge school were asked to bring in a toonie last Wednesday to purchase bubble gum so they could chew their way to a cure for cancer. It was also done to support one of their teachers, Terry Homme, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The students chewed around 400 pieces of gum and raised $355 that will go to the BC Cancer Society.
