At least one person is reported dead, another in serious condition in hospital, following a two-car crash overnight in Maple Ridge.

The accident occurred near Dewdney Trunk Road and Dunbar Street, throwing one vehicle onto its side.

Firefighters reportedly had to cut the roof off one vehicle to free the people inside.

One person was declared dead on scene, another was taken to hospital in what responders are calling "serious" condition, and four others were apparently treated for various injuries.
