The Simon Fraser University Clan men's soccer team, along with Maple Ridge's Alex Rowley, improved their win streak to three in a row to start the season on Friday night at Terry Fox Field with a 6-1 victory over Azusa Pacific.

A large crowd of 642 showed up, fired up and ready to help carry the team to victory.

The Clan started the first half on a roll, firing shots from all over the place. Great chances were created, including one by Rowley when his shot attempt from the 25-yard line hit the post.

"It was a great performance," said Carlo Basso of Coquitlam.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game but everyone came out and did their jobs. We earned this win."

Another great opportunity was missed when Roman Doutkevitch of Saskatoon, missed a header above the net several minutes later.

With 14 minutes left in the first half, Richmond's Colin Jacques gave SFU its first lead of the game with a shot to make it 1-0.

Then, Lucas Ferritto from Hamilton, ON gave SFU a 2-0 lead off a set up from Delta's Adam Staschuk.

After the first half, the Clan were out shooting Azusa Pacific 18-4.

SFU started the second half with a vengeance, scoring three unanswered goals to build a 5-0 lead.

Justin Wallace of Kamloops, got the ball rolling when, after he got tripped in the 18-yard box, he was awarded a penalty kick. He put the ball into the left top corner to give SFU an 3-0 lead.

It was then the 2011 GNAC most valuable player Basso's turn to join the parade when, after being tripped up, he worked his way in and scored on a header from a Jovan Blagojevic shot.

Blagojevic's hard work paid off 20 seconds later when he received a great pass from German-player Chris Bargholz and scored a goal of his own, giving SFU a 5-0 lead.

The Clan finished things off with a spectacular bicycle kick goal from John Hodnett (Wolverhampton, UK), which was set up by a shot from Basso.

The Cougars added one late to break the shut out, making the final 6-1.

With the win, the Clan improve to 3-0 on the season.
