Police have arrested two suspected serial bank robbers, alleged to have committed 34 bank heists throughout Metro Vancouver between Oct. 11 and Dec. 20 2011, including in Maple Ridge.

Charged with 20 counts of robbery along with six counts of using an imitation firearm during the commission of an offence is Duane Robert Burd, 39.

His alleged accomplice, Timothy Peter Everett, 30, is facing 11 counts of robbery and three counts of using an imitation firearm during the commission of an offence.

The men were arrested following an investigation involving Vancouver police, the New Westminster police department and five RCMP detachments.

The first robbery occurred Oct. 11 in North Vancouver and continued with robberies in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Langley, Coquitlam, and Maple Ridge.

It is unknown whether the bank robbery at the Bank of Montreal on Nov. 3 in Maple Ridge is related to this case.

On Nov. 3, a man walked into BMO on 207th Street and demanded money from one of the tellers, said Ridge Meadows RCMP Corporal Alanna Dunlop at the time of the robbery.

“He was given an undisclosed amount of $100 bills before he walked out of the 207th Street branch,” Dunlop said.
